In July 2024 Borealis Maritime, a maritime asset management company, joined Eyesea to support global marine pollution monitoring and recovery. The announcement was covered by The Maritime Executive, Digital Ship, and Scoop in New Zealand.
A fleet of new observers
Borealis Maritime’s vessels, spanning tankers, offshore ships, and container vessels, would use the Eyesea app to report pollution sightings, adding coverage across the routes its fleet trades.
“We recognize our responsibility to protect marine environments and encourage our fleet to actively contribute to Eyesea’s innovative approach,” said CEO Christoph E. Toepfer.
Founder Graeme Somerville-Ryan noted that the addition of the Borealis fleet enhances Eyesea’s ability to collect comprehensive data on marine pollution.
A partnership that started on the beach
Before the formal membership, Borealis Maritime’s German staff had already taken part in cleanup initiatives alongside Eyesea, making the announcement a formalisation of work already underway.
