In May 2023 Eyesea announced a partnership with Mapbox, a leading provider of location data and mapping technology. The story was picked up widely across the maritime press, including The Maritime Executive, Splash247, Seatrade Maritime, and Hellenic Shipping News.
What Mapbox brings
Mapbox provides accurate and current mapping data, along with custom map styles and visualisations for displaying the pollution data Eyesea collects. That strengthens the platform’s capacity to record, identify, and track ocean pollution, and makes it easier for users to locate and document what they see.
“The Mapbox platform is invaluable to our efforts to clean up the world’s oceans, coasts and waterways,” said founder Graeme Somerville-Ryan.
Marena Smith, Mapbox’s Manager of Social Impact, said Mapbox was “proud to support Eyesea in their mission to map pollution and ultimately clean up the world’s oceans and waterways.”
A showcase partnership
Mapbox later featured Eyesea in its own customer showcase, describing how the app builds on the Mapbox Static Tiles API.
